Wellness is the degree to which an individual experiences health and vitality in any dimension of life. Wellness is about being able to do what you enjoy most in life for the rest of your life.
The concept of wellness goes far beyond how you feel now and the presence or absence of pain. Take for instance these two examples:
Jane enjoys bowling and is on her way to bowl following her yearly physical exam. Following a check-up, the doctor gave Jane a GREAT report. He said, “You are the healthiest person I’ve checked in a LONG time. You’re doing great!” That night, Jane drives to the bowling alley, gets out of the car, walks to the front door, she opens the door and as she does, the door knocks the ball out of her hand at it falls on her big toe. What does Jane feel??? PAIN!!……Is she sick?
Let’s take another example. Let’s say Jane goes into see her medical doctor for a routine examination. During the examination, the doctor finds a small lump in Jane’s breast. After further examination Jane finds that the lump is cancerous. Jane feels no pain. Is she healthy? No! So you can’t judge sickness or health by pain.
